Wear cool, loose fitting clothing ~ You may choose to wear a leotard and footless tights, full skirt or shorts. You can do Nia in bare feet or in soft soled shoes. More importantly, wear what makes you feel comfortable and free to move.

Start easy. First Learn the Move, then Move the Move and when your ready, Energize the Move~ Nia is a course that you can set and do at your own pace using tools and techniques for enhancing physical comfort and overall physical pleasure in your body.

Movements are shown in Level 1 to Level 3 moves, giving you the option to choose and honor where your body is today ~ Follow Level 1 movements and/or just begin by focusing on the leg motions, then add the arm motions. Build intensity gradually. Let your body slowly, over a few weeks, acclimate and adjust to the Nia way of moving.

Nia is different - it is meant to teach you about you, physically and emotionally ~ Keep your interest and fascination up and your criticism and judgement down. Be gentle, be patient and allow yourself to move through the levels and stay on plateaus - this is the way to master and enjoy anything!

Make the movements an expression of you ~ This is YOUR workout. Let your own unique rhythm and body language come out through The Nia Technique. Your emotional body will help you to fine tune your physical body and vice versa. Be jazzy, be luscious, lyrical, snappy, or sensually smooth and be passionately yourself! Most of all, have a lot of FUN! You have nothing to lose but your inhibitions!

A typical Bellyfit class is one hour. You can expect to start the class with a 4 minute guided posture check and opening meditation, then 35 minutes of cardio, cool down and isolations.

You will then take your shoes off and transition to the floor for Pilates inspired core work and a flowing Yoga inspired stretch. You will finish with a very brief closing Mudra Meditation.

Be sure to bring appropriate gym shoes as the first half of the class does require shoes. Lots of water, and a Yoga mat are also recommended!
